Bead Soup is served Bohemian Style!!
March 13th, 2013 Bead Soup reveal number 7.........My partner Tania Spivey sent me a rather large pot of beads, everything from handmade beads and a beautiful bronze clasp she made herself, to stone, glass, ceramic, copper findings, laser cut wood, wood beads, wavy patina spacers, ceramic art bead charms, artisan lamp-work, waxed linen, silk ribbon, and sari silk.
Fair warning, I like to honor the person that sent the soup by using as many ingredients as I can so this is a long post.......
Hang in there, I had the time and inspiration so instead of one or two lavish designs I created a little "Bohemian Garden Collection" I could offer in my shop at affordable prices. Everything is listed.
This is what I received from Tania..........I let the ingredients sit on my bead table for a bit until I arrived at peak inspiration. I actually woke up dreaming about these designs back in February thinking the reveal was in March. I couldn't wait to get started. I tried to use as many of these items and added from my own stash, including my altered metals, and some art beads which is my normal routine.
Tania made these gorgeous polymer focal beads, bronze clasp and wire wrapped links for me. The color pallet in the whole collection was inspired by the colors in the focal beads.
"The Valley" bracelet includes 2 beautiful lamp work beads Tania sent by Odie Bells and Silverfish designs, ceramic, patterned wood beads. the wavy cornflake patina brass.
I added a ceramic bead by Gaea, turquoise rondells, brass and copper findings, french ribbon. The art wood tile charm was created with photography by my husband Michael from a scene the "Napa Valley" and we asked my friend Janice of J Lynn Jewels to make this tile.
"Santa Fe" is my patina-ed altered brass. I love the colors in this one. I used Tania's copper link and the lamp work bead by Silverfish Designs. The heat patina-ed copper handmade S clasp is by me, so I hammered Tania's link to give it a similar texture. I made a wire wrapped beaded bead. The waxed lined is tied with some brass beads and some cool stoneware beads I bought the first year I began beading. No idea how I still have those in my stash. They are tucked in the back on this picture, you can see it better in another shot.
"Chocolate Heart" I used the ceramic beads, blue howlite, and olive jade from the soup. I added a combination of Czech glass, turquoise, a Keith O'Connor ceramic bead from my stash
including Vintaj Brass chain and link.
These are the first two necklaces that inspired the whole collection.
"Dancing Dragonfly" I loved adding a peach rust and aqua dragon fly, I patina-ed to this gorgeous focal, I connected a Miss Fickle Media link. Copper Chain, ceramic flower links from Karen Totten, and Tania's beautiful polymer focal bead, wire wrapped copper magnetite connector and handmade clasp. I played with adding silk or sari silk ribbon to this design around the neckline, woven in and out of the chain and decided I preferred the simplicity of this design like this.
A ribbon could easily be added upon request.
"Bohemian Garden" necklace is very cheerful. I hand tied waxed linen from the soup with colorful beads including, olive jade, blue howlite, lapis, from the soup and I added a few Czech glass beads. The chain and toggle are on of my favoriteVintaj Brass clasps.
Several weeks after the first collection and the anticipated March 6, (which as I mentioned was my error) reveal gave me more time........
I sat down to design and pulled a few more beads from the stash Tania sent me. So here we go.......
"Pretty Purple Dragonfly" necklace turned out fun and playfully festive. I used the magenta Howlite tube bead and the hand washed ribbon from the soup. I added 2 beautiful Sea Shore Glass boro beads, a pretty purple magenta bead I can't remember what it is, a cultured sea glass oval link, Czech glass, and a patina-ed dragonfly I made along with Vintaj brass chain and a hook I wire
wrappedwith seed beads and hooks on the left side.
"Teal Patina Heart" bracelet features gorgeous aqua boro glass from my friend Amanda of Sea Shore Glass and I added the blue howlite disc and the aqua chalk turquoise rounds to the Czech glass and patina findings from my stash.
"Teal Green Beach" One of my all time favorite summer beach bracelet color combos with Amanda's glass and I used the aqua chalk turquoise from the soup on this one and the rest came from my stash.
"Kelly and Mango" I used some of the waxed linen and ceramic beads Tania sent me. I really love this one as it features a gorgeous clasp from Mary Harding that she sent me last year and I have been saving it for the perfect opportunity.
I think it turned out really cute, thank you Mary.
"Cinnamon and Vanilla"bracelet features the porcelain beads and the patterned beads and the angel charm. I added Gaea beads in a contrasting white and then I found these coordinating patterned wood beads in my stash and made some earrings to match.
Blue Beads for a special purpose.......These are out of the color pallet so I thought.....These Blue Bracelets will be sent to The Global Genes 7,000 Bracelets Project.
"Blue Dreamin" a couple cobalt blue bracelets with the blue beads included. This one has the copper bead from the mix and the light blue glass. I included Czech glass and a boro bead from Sea Shore Glass.
"Blue Hope" features the cobalt blue glass, the Aqua terra squares, and blue lapis along with some Czech glass and another boro bead from Sea Shore Glass. I love the copper "live" charm I found in my stash.
Last but not least......... I designed this necklace and decided to submit it to a publication. It was not chosen so it is also available with some really cool earrings. The only component in this one from the soup is the wire wrapped magnesite connector. I am working on a new technique with my altered embossed metals and this necklace will be in my next post. Just a tease..... I have to have something to follow up with, so stop by soon to see some new designs I will be listing in my shop.
This is the bead soup I sent Tania. I love these beads and as I put it together I wondered did I want to part with them. I wanted to send her something special so I packaged them up. I have been following her on face-book and her blog since our introduction and I am really excited to see what she designs with her mix. Thank you so much Tania!!
Check out her blog at http://moobiegracedesigns.blogspot.com
Thanks for sticking with me. I had fun on this one. Believe it or not there are still a few beads in this mix and a couple I have no idea what to do with, like the stampings and lazer wood. I think someone can maybe give me an idea in the comments. I hope I got the names of designers, stones, and etc correct. This was a huge undertaking but one I really enjoyed.
You can find all these designs listed in my shop early today, after I get up Pacific time.... www.enlalumiere.etsy.com
Please follow along and visit the other sites in this hop.
Thank you to Lori Anderson, for her inspiration and many hours she has dedicated to this Bead Soup program. I do not know how you do it. Many of you know Lori suffers from an illness and this is a BIG DEAL!!Bead Soup hops have been very helpful in allowing me to share and meet many new designers and build my blog followers. My first Bead Soup partner, Raida Disbrow of Havana Beads has become a friend and Mike and I design and sell with her beads on a regular basis. It is fun to see other blogs, other art and amazing talent in this community. Lots of inspiration here.
Thanks for stopping by. I look forward to hearing your comments. Please add your name to follow my blog. Happy Bead Soup Hopping!! The comment section is way at the bottom of this list. Please share your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by.
