Bead Trends September 2012 and the beginning of another season is

fast upon us...............

This Old Tree
September 2012

Here we are again. September 2012
The end of summer. The beginning of the school year.

A new season in jewelry design is just beginning. I am still enjoying my summer designs because I make lots of beach inspired jewelry. I guess that kind of jewelry is ok all year long. You can go to the beach any time. You can go on a tropical vacation.
I guess my longing for beach inspired jewelry can continue.

I do love fall and the beginning of autumn, and in CA it is always delayed. We are a bit spoiled by the weather here although the evening air coming in my window at night is cooler and the winds are feeling a bit like fall.  We do miss the colors my friends in many parts of the country and Canada enjoy. We do have a beautiful Napa Valley just an hour away and if you time it right, the vineyards are magnificent with color.

So lets talk about Bead Trends...............

First off we must look at my friend Lisa Boucher's gorgeous bracelet on the cover. "Autumns Allure" features some of Lisa's gorgeous stoneware and it is stunning. I have designed with Lisa's pieces and in fact my July necklace "Swept by the Sea" was designed around one of her ocean inspired focal's. You can find more of Lisa's work at www.clayworksnh.etsy.com
Congrats to Lisa for her Bead Trends Cover, and very cute post by her daughter on Facebook commenting her mom was famous!! That might be the best part.

Congratulations to September Designer Highlight. This month Keirsten Giles is featured. I loved her story, a must read. I have not chatted with Keirsten much but she is an amazing artist and her work features lots of wire and metal work mixed in with leather and textures. I love the "Mesa Flowers" on p. 52-53. Gorgeous colors and lots of interesting beads. Check out all her designs on p. 47-57. You can find her shop at www.lunestudio.com You will want some time to check out her beautiful creations.

Just a few other designs that caught my eye this month are.......

Kristi Harrison p. 14-15 "Rapid City Paradise" I love the story to her inspiration.
Kristi features another Nan Emmett focal. We love Nan's focals.
Kristin Oppold on Pg. 18-19 with her beautiful Red Creek Jasper. "Sailboat at Sunset" This one has a very interesting design. It looks like a boat and if you look close you can see people in it.
Kristy Abner 26-27 "Autumn Acorn".  Love the colors!!
Staci Smith p. 32-33 "Fall comes Softly" I have become a fan of Staci's designs and might just have to own one in my jewelry peeps collection soon.
Wenche Brennbakk p. 38-39 "Jeans" love this!! Love the design and beads.
Erin Strother p. 60-61 "Primitive Modern" A great earthy boho design.
Amanda Cargil Austin p. 94-96 "Autumn Barley" bracelet and earrings.
They are in the "Quick and Easy" section
but they are designed with beautiful unique beads, fun stuff!! I own quite a few of Amanda's designs. She is also my favorite glass artist and my friend.
You will find her glass in many of my designs.

"This Old Tree" p. 16-17
My Necklace this month was inspired by a beautiful grove of old oak trees on U. C. Davis Campus at the Arboretum. It is 3.5 acres of gorgeous park and water running through it. There are plants from every part of the world represented there. I always wonder how they all grow in our climate. We take our grandchildren there sometimes and they love to climb up in these trees. We collect a few beautiful leaves and pretty acorns at this time of year.
We like to look at little bowls around my house of natures treasures and that inspires me.
I love the way the photographer captured my necklace this month.

I began with a beautiful ceramic focal by Nan Emmett. www.spiritedearth.etsy.com
I added the Vintaj Brass components like this branch and chain. I wire wrapped several types of natural agates and tiger cocoa, bayong wood, and ceramic beads by Gaea of www.gaea.etsy.com. The chestnut toggle clasp and little twigs are by Shannon of www.missficklemedia.etsy.com,  the pieces of raw leather are tucked here and there to give the feeling they were left by nesting birds.

You can find this necklace and some of my published designs along with my boho, beach, shabby and chic and more at www.enlalumiere.etsy.com

  4. I love the branch and the earthy feel...it is almost as if you are looking up into a tree and can see a bird sitting there...the texture is as if you were leaning on that tree, soaking it in. Beautiful! Thank you also for the mention on the blog! :)
