Hi,  it's Mike and Cherrie, your handcrafted jewelry designers of "Designs in the Light" here in Vacaville, CA. 

New website: Early this year we began building a new and improved website with the same web address, Designs in the Light  The new website features our latest collections of boho and gallery designs. Handcrafted metal clay, beach inspired boho earrings, beaded necklaces and wrap bracelets, art bead designs and lots more.

New Blog: We feature a new blog over there on the website with lots of news from 2016.  Get a cup of your favorite drink and catch up on our year if you have a little time, : Designs in the Light Blog.

Brick and Mortar Wholesale:


You can find a wholesale application and program for shops, boutiques, galleries or wine shops. We are currently looking for a couple more shops to add to our business.

Etsy Shops: We have restructured our Etsy shops. Our jewelry shop, Designs in the Light Etsy  is still open and the current plan is to offer pricing with discounts on some of our over stock or designs that do not fit on the website. This is where we started our online business in 2009 and we hope to continue with our customer base with this format.

Bead Supply Shop: One of the things Mike and I enjoy is the hunt to find great beading supplies. We have found we have way to many beautiful art beads  and supplies are no longer what we need for our collections.  U Can Bead 2  is a jewelry de-stash supply shop. U Can Bead 2 on Etsy. I have put together little assortments of color coordinated beads, many come with art beads for the jewelry artist to add to their collection and design with. The pricing in this shop is mostly de-stash or discounted from my original purchases and you can save even more with our coupons when you buy multiple packs.

Mike and I are busy completing a couple custom orders, working on new designs, some that are complete and will be listed soon and new ideas for the coming months.

Bronze, Smoke and Pearls Collection will be ongoing this year. It features beautiful glass in bronze, and smoke grey, with freshwater pearls and Vintage Coco Channel beads and Czech glass.  We will feature many styles of beaded wraps by Cherrie, and handmade bronze and silver clay designs and earrings by Michael. Each piece will be unique, sometimes we can duplicate but not always. Our mixed metals woven bracelets coordinate well and we have had a hard time keeping those in stock.

We are working on an upgraded website and everything will be moved over there from the current website soon.  We are excited about that as we will be able to feature our designs better and work with our wholesale accounts.

The earrings shown are Silver clay which is .960 silver. They are gorgeous with the patina he achieved on this pair. The necklace and bracelet designs can be special ordered in silver.

News for our studio this October......

Mike and I are busy in the studio these days creating new pieces for our fall winter collections. Lots of beaded pieces, our new woven wrap bracelets, and Mikes bronze, copper and sterling metal clay designs in several brand new beaded colors I cooked up this year. Our focus is quality nature inspired handmade jewelry that coordinates so you have choices of lots of layered textured colorful jewelry.

SAVE...Use special pricing code when you coordinate 2 or 3 pieces at one time in our Etsy shop. 

These new woven bracelets come in two widths and several color-ways and also can be made for ladies or men. I love adding random little beads to give them extra color and texture and they are all one of a kind this way. With gift giving soon upon us check out our shops frequently. They are going fast and I plan to add at them as quickly as I can. They are super comfortable and look great alone or with wrapped necklace/bracelet wraps or bangles in a stacked look as shown.

The Oregon Coast

Mike and Cherrie here on the Oregon Coast......... 

We just returned from a quick visit to see our Oregon grand kids. 

It is always such a blessing to catch up and play and visit with each of them and never enough time. 

We were able to get in a couple trips to the beach, our favorite place on earth. We are so inspired in our art and our jewelry design by the light, colors, and textures of nature.

Color and texture, that is what we love. We coordinate lots of pieces to offer you a choice of one piece or a whole collection. As the season goes along we add more if the color palette is popular so be sure to check back often. This one is always a hit.

New Fall Collection Designs in our Shops this week...... 

Michael and I have been working with lush colors of jewel tones, deep burgundy merlot (the bottom left necklace)   purple, russet, rich copper and bronze metal clay and gorgeous art beads. Rich fall and winter colors and textures. We are just getting this season rolling and will be adding to our shops on a regular basis. 

My favorite time of year for designing. Well,  beach designs in summer my favorite time in summer.!!

ART SHOWS-- We wanted to remind our art show customers we will not be at all the shows you have found us showing in the past few years including Lafayette, Pleasant Hill, Sacramento, or San Jose this year. We have opted out of the shows for this season and wanted to make sure you can still find us at

NEW SUPPLY SHOP- I have opened a new shop on U Can Bead2, Etsy U Can Bead2 loaded with beading supplies for new artists who might not have great resources.  Also great for seasoned beader's who love artist beads and might not be able to find some great ones in my stash. Many of my art beads are no longer available as the artists have retired, so they are OOAK, one of a kind. You don't want to miss this!

Something New from Designs in the Light

Summer is officially over .......... UCanBead2 
We are offering a new shop on Etsy with something new to you. 

We just opened yet another shop!! In this business we love collecting, designing and playing with beads and have decided it is time to share a few of the many beautiful beads from our collection.

This project has been brewing in my little head for about 3 years or more. Over the past 8 years I discovered many wonderful art bead artists.  You might know most of my designing over a 2 1/2 years period when I was a published jewelry designer in Bead Trends included these beads. If you are an creative jewelry artist you know sometimes, you wait for the inspiration, or season, or just the time to design with some of those beads. Crazy, but we just can't help ourselves, right?

I have opened this shop U Can Bead 2 Etsy to share my collection with you. I have lovingly pulled little color coordinated collections with many of my favorite art beads.  The idea is if you add them to your stash you can easily find inspiration for several new pieces. Kind of like de-stashing with my twist.

Some of these art beads are no longer available as the artists no longer sell to my knowledge. That makes each little collection OOAK, one of a kind. Something you might not find anywhere else. It helps to revive the reason it was originally created. I'm hoping a win-win for everyone!!

Mike and I have worked together for the past couple years building our business.  We have sold to boutiques, juried art shows and online in our shops. Designs in the Light Etsy. We love the journey of finding pretty beads. We compliment each other in the choices, much like we have in other ventures we worked together on.

This year we have moved in a slightly new direction. We have not signed up for art shows. We miss seeing the ladies face to face, but it made sense with our schedule this year at least. If you have seen something in the past at our shows please send us a note to see if we still offer it.

Mike is busy designing amazing collections of metal clay of all kinds, and teaching this unique art at our local bead store, Beads on Main, in Vacaville, CA. Our plan is to sell his work in our website and galleries. We are looking for new galleries to offer this work to, so if you have any to recommend we are open to suggestion. We will also be offering selected bronze, copper, silver components in our new shop as well!! UCanBead2

I am still designing our beaded boho and nature collections and selling in several boutiques and online in our shops.

It is a lot of work keeping it all organized but it is the way we have found works for us. As soon as I get this shop up and running I will be listing some new jewelry for the upcoming fall season. Can't wait to do that!!

HAPPY4th SALE is about to happen

This year is just flying by!! My goodness it seems each year I think that and it is really flying this year. We are half way through the year!........Enter SUMMER!!

This is just the beginning of summer and we love the beach. The designs above include a couple new designs I made on vacation. This is a new artist I am working with and I like the casual look so I ordered more beach art bead pendants today and have some ideas to continue working on and bringing to our shops soon.

After a couple lovely weeks in very green TN we are back home, then we spent a little over a week with our four grand-kiddos. This week we are knee deep in catching up.
