Heather Powers is having a blog hop......
I was wishing for a chance to attend her fall retreat last weekend. That was not possible so when I saw the post on this blog hop I jumped at the chance to design with her. I began purchasing Heather's beads in the past year or so. I have at least one design published in Bead Trends last December. Her book "Inspired by Nature" is one of my favorite bead books. I too love nature and the beautiful light it gives us, the textures and colors.
When I design I always try to pull those elements into the project.
To get started we purchased a little bead package, a soup mix of sorts with beads from the Bare Branches collection. This is what was in the package..... A bare branches lentil and 5 beads, some Czech glass, Smoky quartz, 2 lovely bronze colored pearls with large holes, sari silk ribbon, and a few bits of Vintaj Brass.
I set about thinking of a design and added a few pieces from my stash. I decided on a three piece set.
The necklace........
I found a large swirled boro glass bead from my friend Amanda of Sea Shore Glass www.seashoreglass.etsy.com. I design with Amanda's glass when I use art beads all the time. Her intense colors and light always seem to add the right element to the design. On this bead I had made a custom wire wrap with copper wire that was heat patinaed. I pulled some little chartreuse lamp work beads by Pinocean www.pinocean.etsy.com , I added some Czech glass in a contrasting blue and 2 brass beads. Added some little copper seed beads and copper chain. The clasp is connected at the focal and I hand forged and heat patinaed it. I love the color heat adds to the copper wire. It is never the same and never perfectly even, which adds interest.
The Bracelet......
The gorgeous large lentil is the focal on this bracelet. Along with the other smaller bead I added a Gaea bead in the creamy white to pull the white in the bare branches bead. www.gaea.etsy.com, another dark teal boro bead by Amanda, a teal and chartreuse bead by Pinocean, and the same Czech glass in the blue. I also added a lovely blue quartz bead and some Vintaj brass and copper spacers. I added a handmade copper clasp I had made and a copper leaf from Vintaj.

I ended up with several beads left including the cool pearls and I ran out of time so they will most likely end up in another design. I have several more designs with Heather's beads and several other of my favorite artists beads on my table. These are the projects I design for special things like publishing.

I think it is a combination of my interior decorating days and the love of light, color and texture in nature. The beads just come together that way.
